Best People I’ve Worked With

Today, I’d like to share my experience working in different field of work in the last 14 years.

I’ve worked in engineering, entertainment, training, entertainment and publishing industries.

I found that the most helpful, generous and great people to work with are the “geeks” in which you can find more of them in technical or engineering fields.

You can also find them in other fields but kinda rare.

Definition of Geek from Google search:

An unfashionable or socially inept person.
A person with an eccentric devotion to a particular interest: “a computer geek”.

Geeks don’t talk badly about other people. The most they do is maybe make fun of bad bosses during break time (breakfast, lunch, tea time). They laugh about it.

They turn anger and frustration about the boss or the job or other people’s stupidity into laughter.

When they are back at the cubicle, it’s work. No hanging around at other’s cubicle, the pantry or going for a smoke in group.

Most geeks I know don’t smoke.

Geeks are more interested in their work and their own lives, which I believe that’s why others might think of them as selfish, don’t care about others and anti-social or “socially inept person”.

But from my experience they are the most generous and helpful people if you get to know them and if you ask for help.

If they can they will definitely help you, if they can’t they will say they can’t.

And contrary to popular belief, geeks can be fun to be with and the can actually be funny people, they can make a fool of themselves as they don’t really bother about what others think of them because they have more interesting things to think about or do (which you might not consider interesting though).

To my engineering friends, David, Hooi Khuan, ET (the best boss I’ve ever had), CP, YY, Wan, Kok Hooi, Siraj, Paul, Min Hooi, Min Yin… I miss you guys and you guys are the most awesome people I’ve worked with and are great friends.
